Position: Fire Protection Detailer
Reports to: Fire Protection Coordinator
Dept: CAD Detailing Team

Summary: BIM Designs, Inc is seeking a Fire Protection Modeler/Detailer to lead BIM design and efforts with respect to various Fire Protection projects. As a member of the BIM Designs Fire Protection Department, you will create constructible designs that will protect lives, investment, and future growth.

General Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all essential Senior-Level responsibilities
  • Act as “Lead Detailer and Coordinator” for assigned projects
  • Complete other responsibilities, as directed
  • Compile and prepare shop drawings and material submittals for review by architects, engineers, clients, and jurisdictional authorities
  • Coordinate sprinkler design with new/existing structures, and other MEP subcontractors
  • Optimize design efficiency for system fabrication and installation
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for fire sprinkler systems
  • Detail the design for fabrication, prepare installation drawings, and prepare “as built” drawings for client files and in-house archives
  • Prepare stock lists/BOMs
  • Ability to work productively, independently, and as a team member
  • Knowledge/Ability to learn NFPA standards and IFC requirements
  • Develop and manage constructible BIM Models

Create & Maintain models to fulfill Project-Specific Requirements:

  • Create models that are constructible and meet all code requirements for national and local jurisdictions including addenda
  • Coordinate with BIM service providers and subcontractors
  • Develop models to illustrate contractor questions and solutions
  • Update as-built and revised Building Information Model, maintain revision log
  • Distribute new and revised models depicting approved change orders and RFI responses
  • Compile contract close out documentation
  • Create new library database as needed
  • Track all projects using ProCore/client specific project management software

Quantity Take Off

  • Aid in project estimation and cost reports analysis
  • Quantity survey, review and system input for labor costing

4D Schedules

  • Assist to develop the modeling schedule
  • Assist in preparation of 4D simulations
  • Assist to develop coordination schedules

Trade Coordination

  • Assist with updating, maintaining and distributing documents to field and subcontractors
  • Maintain all control logs (RFIs, shop drawings, as-builts, etc.)
  • Site inspection and liaising with trade contractors,  when applicable
  • Prepare and maintain submittal logs and expediting log for BIM models
  • Attend model coordination meetings and document project preconstruction
  • Join meetings as needed by direction of Fire Protection Coordinator
  • Support coordinating models with internal and subcontractor detailers and modelers
  • Coordination sign offs
  • Process shop/fabrication level models for approval

Field Coordination

  • Assist project team with construction coordination and scheduling
  • Coordinate project deadlines with onsite trades
  • Prepare 3D models for self‐performed work
  • Ensure self QA/QC prior to submission to Project Coordinator for review
  • Create stock listing and BOMs for field verification
  • Produce dimensioned drawings from the model for field use
  • Perform virtual site visits to review and evaluate progress of job scope with the assistance of the project management team, as needed.

  • Keep current and standardized job‐site files
  • Timely and accurate preparation of VDC models, shop drawings, etc.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer/client relations
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to increase knowledge base of field data
  • Demonstrate positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • NICET Level I required
  • NICET Level II & III preferred
  • Additional associations or field related certifications a plus

Education and/or Experience:

  • 3+ years of recent AutoCAD/HydraCAD/Revit/Navis/Bluebeam experience a plus
  • 5+ years of field experience required
  • College level CAD classes/CCL/Associates Degree with a pass of B or higher highly desired
  • Willing to participate in company sponsored educational courses
  • Willing to gain knowledge of industry codes, standards, and jurisdictional application
  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge of NFPA 13  is required

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, interpret, and retain document information such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and jurisdictional code
  • Ability to create appropriate routine reports, correspondence, and internal/external messaging
  • Ability to speak effectively before guests, clients, and associates of the organization
  • Ability to communicate within the team through various mediums of communication
