VDC JOURNEYMAN DETAILER, PLUMBING DIVISION
An interview with Chris:
How many years of field work did you have before becoming a detailer?
I was in the field off-an-on my whole apprenticeship, but usually for 1-2 month stretches when detailing got slow.
What type of field work have you performed?
Installing pvc, cpvc, hp stainless tubing, pvdf, copper pipe (soldered), small tubing pulls, and hangers. Demo of AW and EV lines at Intel. I was also a field liaison at Intel for aproximatley 8 months.
What company were you with last, and for how long?
Southland Engineering, for 3 yrs 6 mos.
What are other job roles you have performed in the past?
Prior to joining the union, I did residential framing, finish carpentry, drywall, design/install/maintenance of several very large aquariums (approximately 7 years doing that), various retail management jobs, and CAD jobs (approximately 5 yrs).
What passion, energy or excitement do you bring into the workplace with you?
I really enjoy making a project work when others say it can't be done. Problem-solving makes a job more satisfying. I enjoy helping others when I can. While I really enjoy challenges, I also enjoy the simpler tasks as well, such as spooling and cleaning up drawings. Having created a big pile of clean, pretty shop drawings always makes my day.
What do you do for fun in your off hours?
Gardening, fishing, spending time with my family...cooking...working on my car.
